My Career
During my career I have taken my own UK-origin IT services and consulting business international, served as MD of International for a major USA software and solutions company, spent many years in international business development and senior consulting roles at the intersection of business and IT, and ran the operations of one of Australia's leading MSP / digital transformation consultancy and solutions companies.
I also acquired a fledgling security product reseller business in Sydney and transformed it into one of Australia's more successful cyber security consultancy and training businesses before exit through sale. Experiences gathered during that role inspired me to write what became a leading specialist textbook for CIOs, legal practitioners, corporate governance and risk management professionals on the management of legal risks arising from security breaches.
My business career was built on an initial spell as International Legal Counsel in a fast growing IT services business following my graduation from Cambridge University with a Masters in law and subsequent qualification as a barrister. As a corporate lawyer, my role was to structure and negotiate complex joint venture, acquisition and outsourcing deals across EMEA and Asia. This gave me a good insight into how to get deals done in many different cultures as well as developing a strong understanding of how to hedge risk whilst still achieving the desired sales outcome.
